Situated at an altitude of 400 m. and at a distance of 28 km. east from Volos, Milies is a village of South Pelion.
Place blessed and historical. The revolution of Pelion (1821) began from here and a fact worth mentioned is the establishment of the renowned “SCHOOL of Milies” by Gazis, Konstantas & FIllipidis.
Result of the then intellectual activity was the creation of the amazing library of Milies “soul AKOS” whose function goes on until today hosting more than 3,500 rare books and historical manuscripts – relics.
The historical and cultural aspect of the region is enriched by the famous “Moutzouris”, the train of Pelion. This railway, which was built in the late 19th century , by the father of the famous painter imperialist, Tzorzio De Chirico, Evaristo De Chirico, links the commercial and industrial center of Volos with the fertile region of western Pelion.
At the same time, the passenger is given the opportunity to enjoy the unique natural beauty of the landscape and the elaborate architectural constructions from April to October.
At the village is the famous church of “Archangels” located, whose construction is still unknown. With the tribunal chamber architecture , the 12 outdoor domes, and the recently restored frescoes symbolizing the entrance of the catechumens in the temple * (the temple is a classic symbol of cultural heritage).
The local traditional architecture, the agriodes flora, the natural beauty, the view of Pagasitikos, the arched bridges, the picturesque cobbled streets and the stony architecture of the region satisfy the most demanding preferences and is undoubtedly an unforgettable experience.
